Abdullah Jahangir As-Sunnah Trust was founded by Dr. Khondoker Abdullah Jahangir (Rah) who was a reformer and one of the best Islamic scholars in the subcontinent.

Name and Brief Biography:

Dr. Khondoker Abdullah Jahangir (Rah) was a renowned scholar and the author of many books. His full name was Abu Nasor Muhammad Abdullah Jahangir. His father’s name was Khondoker Anowaruzzaman (Rah). He is known nationwide as Abdullah Jahangir.

Birth and Childhood:

This great thinker was born on November 5, 1958 AD, corresponding to the 19th of Kartik in the Bengali calendar year 1365, and the 23rd of Rabi’ al-Sani in the Hijri year 1378, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon in the village of Digonagar under Shailkupa Police Station of present Jhenaidah district in Bangladesh. (His real date of birth is November 05, 1958; although his date of birth is February 01, 1961) Norohoridra of Jhenaidah Town was his native village. Later his father started to reside at Dhopaghata-Gobindopur village in Jhenaidah Town permanently. He spent most of his childhood in a house called “Mi’ar Dalan” in Muraridoho.

Student Life:

He was admitted into Jhenaidah Alia Madrasah in 1968. He passed Dakhil in 1975, Alim in 1975 and Fazil in 1977 from there. Later he pursued higher education and enrolled at ‘Madrasah-e-Alia, Dhaka’ in the Hadith Department for the academic years 1977-79. He secured the eighth position in the Madrasah Board with honors in Kamil from the aforementioned department. In 1981, he was granted a scholarship and got the opportunity to study at the Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from there in 1986 and a master’s degree from the same university in 1992. In 1998, he earned his PhD degree.

Teaching Career:

He ended his illustrious student life in Riyad, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Later on September 3, 1998, he joined Kushtia Islamic University as a Lecturer in the Department of Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies. In 1999, he became an Assistant Professor, in 2004 an associate professor, and in 2009, he was promoted to the position of professor in the same department, where he continued working until he passed away.

Social Contributions:

In 1998 AD, he founded the “Al-Faruq Academy”; and then in 2011, he founded “Abdullah Jahangir As-Sunnah Trust” with the noble aim of promoting authentic Islamic knowledge and providing humanitarian services. At present, this organization is carrying out various types of Islamic and social activities including disseminating Islamic education, serving poor women and orphans.

Death:

On May 11, 2016, he passed away in a road accident. He was 58 years old at the time of his demise. May Allah grant him a high status in Paradise!
